THE FACE OF BERTRAMS

The face of Bertram’s and other areas in ward 66 four to five years ago.

And still today after numerous campaigns to make parts of ward 66 somewhat a bit more presentable.

Plenty was achieved in the Bertram’s area and surrounds in the past five years, all due to the fact that we were hosting the 2010 world soccer that was my trump card, now the trump card got played, and the decay is spreading like wild fire in ward 66.

I don’t think that the people in the rest of this ward really realize the extent of our problems, because most people are actually scared to drive around Bezvalley and Bertram’s and the rest of ward 66, especially the darker side of the ward.

I however, drive and walk the area daily, and it scares me how fast that urban decay is spreading to the better side of ward 66 (Kensington) for example.

Bezvalley wasn’t so bad 4 years ago, but now as the photos will show Bezvalley is slowly getting engulfed in the same cancer as Bertram’s was, because of lack of bylaw enforcement in our ward.

Because of no building control, because of no control over overcrowding, because of slum lords, because of illegal businesses popping up like mushrooms all over, drug dealers in every corner doing their trade etc.

WE ARE LOOSING THIS BATTLE PEOPLE!!WE ARE LOSING OUR HOMES BECAUSE NOBODY CARES.

BUT I STILL CARE.

I started this clean up campaign 5 years ago and I have not given up. My aim has always been to clean up the area and bring property value up.

For the last 5 years and at least in Bertram’s I have succeeded, but now what’s happening to Bezvalley further down? What is happening to Kensington further up? I will not tell you that. I will rather show you.

Take time to see what Kensington could look like in another 5 years time.

I will show you Bertram’s 5 years ago and I will show you Bezvalley today.

I will also point out the fact, that no less than four kilometers away from Kensington border exists a squatter camp.

I will also point out to you all that Bezvalley is no further than a few hundred meters away from Kensington.

Most of you good people don’t realize it, but ward 66 was butchered by the ANC, more than half of Kensington was taken out of ward 66 and Bellevue east was added. Bellevue east is an ANC strong hold.

By doing that, ward 66 is danger of becoming an ANC ward.

Now I don’t have to tell you how a ward run by the ANC will look like, just go to Yeoville and see for yourself.

So to all residents of ward 66, make a point of voting for the man you know will never allow this to happen, me, CARLOS DA ROCHA.

So as a community, especially in Kensington if you all go out and vote, we will keep the ward, and we will also keep the new ward 118, the last thing anyone wants is half of Kensington run by the DA and the other half by the ANC.

The last thing you want for your property value is half of Kensington looking like Yeoville, it will destroy Kensington as we know it.

We need a plan of action, we need to mobilize the community, we need to get together and fight for what we all worked so hard for.

Let’s not abandon our homes like its happening in Bezvalley because of the decay, let’s rather get together and make a collective united force, for Kensington and the rest of ward 66.
